As many of you know, I’m in the first stages of nesting. I’m preparing the whole house (and family!) for a baby, and in some cases, that just means making sure things are and will stay neat and tidy. However, cats can just be messy.
I decided to switch our cats’ food to something a little more healthy than what we’ve been giving them lately, so I did some browsing on Amazon. We buy all our pet food on Amazon.com now (yes, even giant bags of dog food!) out of convenience.
I found Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Zero Grain Food for Cats (Dry) in the Chicken & Potato Recipe. From some reading, I found that all the recipes are made from real chicken or seafood, and never contain any grains, artificial flavors, preservatives, or fillers. Sounds good to me!
I also grabbed a new toy for Uno, Dos, and Tres while I was shopping.
Once the package arrived, I was satisfied that I’d have their new diet squared away. But what about the mess? The cats (Uno and Dos in particular) tend to get food ALL over the room, and it goes flying across the wood floor. I decided to put something down to keep the food at least a little bit in place, and create a cat food placemat.
Here’s what I used:
- My Amazon.com box
- Contact paper
- Vinyl adhesive
First, I cut my cardboard to size. You can use an x-acto knife, or even scissors, but I prefer to use a rotary cutter, as it gives me a little more control.
I then wrapped a large piece of contact paper around my cardboard, and trimmed the edges.
I used my cutting machine to create some vinyl letters. You can easily use scissors to cut out letters, or even buy pre-cut letters from the craft store! I then placed the letters at the bottom of the mat.
Now, it was time to present the placemat and new food to the cats (as you do; cats require a presentation). I was sure to mix the new food with their old food, so their tummies had time to adjust. I’ll later switch to just the new food.
How’d they like it?
THEY LOVED IT.
Somewhat, surprisingly, most of the food has even been contained to the placemat.
I’m hoping all three of our cats will benefit from this switch. This food’s #1 ingredient is chicken, and the high-quality protein provides essential nutrients to help support healthy organs & lean muscle mass — which Uno and Dos could both use! While I bought it from Amazon.com, Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® is available in many stores! Even better? Rachael’s personal proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue, which helps shelter pets in need, going toward food, and medical care.
