What’s Up?

I know, it’s been forever since I’ve blogged! I’ve been thinking about blogging ever since I stopped. I’ll share more on that later, but just know, blog friends: I’ve thought about you, and all of your support a few years ago meant everything to me. This space offered more than I ever could have imagined, and I am so grateful.

The last y’all saw of me here, we had moved into the suburbs from Midtown Atlanta. We found a gorgeous house (as close to my dream house as I could get without building) in a great neighborhood. It’s so quiet here at night, with no trains blaring their horns at 2 a.m., no fireworks at a nearby venue, no sweet sixteen parties for the daughter of a famous ATL rapper across the street, and no office buildings bursting into flames while every fire truck in the city responds. Just quiet.

Since then, Charlotte has obviously grown quite a bit. She is officially two and a half years old. She is talking up a storm, running, climbing, full of attitude and opinions, and taking up all of my time and energy. She is in preschool a couple of mornings each week, giving me just enough time to go to Target alone and put away some laundry.

We’ve done a couple of big projects on our new house. First, we had the basement finished over the summer. We added a full bath and multiple rooms, including an office for Tim, a home gym, and space for the cats. We also added a patio to our backyard, and plan to add some finishing touches to it before the summer.

Tim made a job change, going back to the company he used to work for. I can’t explain what Tim does other than he is a “software developer”. He’s such a great dad. He steps up to the plate, and gives me a lot of breaks, which I need and deserve. I’m sticking by that.

As for myself, I have been in full blown stay-at-home-mom mode. I drive Charlotte around to school, activities, appointments, create different activities at home, clean (lol), cook, do laundry — all of it. I’ve been daydreaming of setting aside time to write, read, find hobbies again, and — like many moms — spend more time with friends. But by the end of many days, I haven’t been able to get my brain to do anything more.

I’ve been fairly active on Instagram. I’ve gone back and forth between wanting to connect with people and wanting to put up all the walls. I’ve gone private multiple times to clean out my followers (people who weren’t engaging with me anyway). I have a lot of thoughts on the platform and what it’s become, as well as how blogging has changed in the last few years. Maybe I’ll ironically blog about them sometime soon.

So here I am. Again. I’m here to connect with others and write something longer than an Instagram caption.

What you won’t see here:

Sponsored posts. I have zero interest in putting extra deadlines on myself.
Fashion. Other than pieces that I’m wearing on repeat and I think are worth it, you won’t see a lot of content about clothes. This has never been, and will never be, a fashion blog. It’s not my forte. Besides, my new garage door isn’t white, either.
Ads. Seems like more work.
A schedule. I’ll blog what I want when I want to. This might mean there’s a big gap in between posts. You can follow via bloglovin, add the site on feedly, or if you follow me on Instagram, I’ll tell you when I put up a new post. But since pageviews aren’t my goal here, I’m not really worried about it.
Perfection. You aren’t going to see a ton of high quality photos done by a professional photographer. They will be mostly iPhone photos, and occasionally really nice ones that Tim takes. You’ll know when he took them.

What you will see here:

Things I love. I’ll share products I’ve actually used/owned and love. If I won’t spend my own money on it, I won’t recommend it.
Affiliate links. Mostly of the amazon variety. You can find some of my favorites here. Just know it takes a lot of clicks and purchases for me to see a dime, so my goal is not to get rich off of you. If you ever want a non-affiliate link to something you see me using, just DM me. I’ll happily send you one.
My personal experiences. This means I may be going back and reflecting on some old experiences and sharing new ones. Plus cute Charlotte pictures.
My thoughts, reflections, and my opinions. This is, after all, my space.
Raise your hand if you miss MySpace. 🙋‍♀️

I’m excited to share what we’ve been up to the last couple of years! Follow along if it’s your thing.

Girl, I feel like you read my mind with this post. I have also been thinking about dipping my toe back into the blogging world but without all the stresses of the numbers and the massive popularity contest it’s all become. I was so burned out on all that crap when I quit blogging, but I do miss the community. Glad you’re back!

I felt the same way! It changed so much. One of the things I thought of today was that blog rolls kind of disappeared because the ‘business’ minded told us to not encourage someone to leave your website. But blog rolls went along with the community aspect of blogging. So I’m working on adding a blog roll!

Oh my. I have had such a similar experience and thoughts, and have been so unsure of what to do. I keep flip-flopping between shutting down my site and walking away; to reviving with maybe with a new name to match my new identity; to just getting back in and using it as the original intent was, to simply write, before all the pressure was put on bloggers. I’m still stuck what I want to do, and I guess I just wanted to say I’m so glad to see this is something you other gals are grappling with, but also not giving up. Welcome back:)
