I read a grand total of 17 books in June. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to read this much again in my life. We had a five-day trip to Hilton Head this month, and I didn’t drive there or home, so I was able to spend almost all of car rides reading. I opened my book every single chance I got during that trip. My reading speed has definitely picked up, and that has obviously helped.
The One by John Marrs
I was surprised by how much I LOVED this book. I am drawn to sci-fi thrillers, but I saw some buzz around the Netflix series first, and it didn’t strike me as a series I’d enjoy. But the book. The book is so good. I’ve just started the tv series, and it is nothing like the book.
The Sun Down Motel by Simon St. James
This was one of my first Book of the Month picks and I put off reading it for so long. I just wasn’t sure if it would be something I enjoyed, but I was wrong. It was very Nancy Drew-like, super creepy, and I ended up staying up WAY too late one night to finish it.
All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells
I started reading this on my kindle after finishing The Sun Down Motel for a palate cleanser, and it was a fun, short sci-fi novel. I anticipate reading more of the series!
A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOTAR #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas
This was not my favorite ACOTAR book, as it felt a lot like a Christmas special just kind of thrown in. But this does mean I am almost caught up in the series.
Be the Girl by K.A. Tucker
This is my first K.A. Tucker book, and I loved it. It reminded me a lot of Slammed by Colleen Hoover. I’ll be back for more.
Siege and Storm (Shadow and Bone #2) by Leigh Bardugo
I’m loving the Shadow and Bone series! This one was a little harder to get through than the first, but still so worth it.
Carrie by Stephen King
I have never read a Stephen King book, so I decided I’d read his first book first. Stephen King will often call himself a bad writer, and this wasn’t that great. One of the few times the movie was better.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I continued my trend of listening to celebrity memoirs on audiobook. This felt almost like listening to Parks and Rec or Inside Out. I loved it.
The Last thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
If you haven’t already, add this to your summer reading list! This was full of suspense and hooked me immediately.
The Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Tiktok told me this book would crush me, and I think they were right.
Vicious (Villains #1) by V.E. Schwab
I picked this one up after reading Schwab’s The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and it does not disappoint. It’s like a supernatural hero vs. villain… or maybe villain vs. villain.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
This is another perfect summer read!! The enemies to lovers trope will always get me. I was lucky enough to actually read this on the beach.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
After DNFing Daisy Jones and the Six, I was nervous to pick up another TJR. But my issues with Daisy were mostly the format of the story, and Malibu Rising was a perfect story.
The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting by Brene Brown
Brene Brown will always make me sob and I will always take a lot away from every single one of her books.
The Selection by Kierra Cass
This is the perfect YA combo of Hunger Games and The Bachelor. I loved it and will return to the series for more!
One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
Pretty Little Liars + Gossip Girl? One of Us Is Lying had me guessing the whole time. I’m hoping the second in the series is as good as the first.
Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian
This a retelling The Lady of Shallot and it is really fascinating. It was hard to get through the middle, but it picked up a lot at the end!
